Doing the reps…

Doing the reps...

I'm helping a client with the implementation of a new AMS. During a recent call, their internal project manager said "I'm still not as familiar with the system as I'd like to be. I need to get in there more often and play around."

I responded: "That's exactly right. I suggest you get in the system for at least 15 minutes a day until you're very familiar with how to navigate around the system. You need to be doing the reps."

For anyone who has worked with a physical trainer, a vocal coach, or a guitar teacher, you know exactly what "doing the reps" means. Every teacher and good student knows that the way to really learn something is through repetition. Repeating the same process until you have "muscle memory."

The same is true when learning any new system or platform. The more frequently you use it, the quicker (and hopefully better) you'll be. Muscle memory will eventually set in and (for example) you'll know how to look up a record, create a query, or execute a key process without having to think about it.

So: are you doing the reps?
