Who own the AMS company is like the weather...

When I work with clients to find a new AMS, one of the most common questions I get is: "Is the software company owned by private equity or is it privately owned?"

While I think this is a legitimate question to ask and have answered, it is ultimately like knowing what the weather is. You can't do anything about the weather, but you can be prepared for whatever the forecast says might happen.

A company owned privately today may sell tomorrow. A company owned by private equity today may get sold to another PE firm tomorrow. Just like the weather, there's nothing you can do to stop these events. You can only be prepared for them and react accordingly.

All of this is to say, although understanding ownership of a company is important, it probably shouldn't be a major factor in your decision, but rather one of many issues to consider.
