I’ve written elsewhere about the value of data integrity reports. But one of the most common complaints I hear from my clients is that the actual list of reports within their AMS is so unwieldy, they wind up creating new reports (or queries) because they don’t really know what reports they have or what they do.
That’s why I was pleasantly surprised to see that one AMS vendor, Euclid Technologies, has created a “Report Review,” that, by their words, “users can use to audit the reports in their Information Central and identify any unused or duplicate reports that could be archived or discarded.” In other words, it’s a data integrity report on reports! How meta! (You can read about it here.)
The report checks for how often other reports are used, whether the reports are subscribed to, and even if there are possible duplicates. This is weeding the garden at its finest!
I believe that one of the most important elements of success for any AMS is user adoption. And user adoption can be adversely affected by screen noise and “garbage” data. That’s why keeping things clean (“weeded”) is so important for long-term success.
