When it comes to data management, most of us know what to do; we just don’t do it. What is required is discipline.
Discipline is absolutely critical when it comes to managing data effectively. For example, you have to have the discipline to:
- enter the data when you receive it (I so often hear associations say “We have that data, we just haven’t entered it into the system yet.”)
- enter the data correctly (Garbage in, garbage out, right?)
- do the gardening (If your data is not improving, it’s getting worse.)
- and on and on.
The difference between knowing and doing is discipline. What does the discipline look like in your organization?
