Obamacare and Your New Website

The launch of the Obamacare state exchanges are scheduled for October 1, and the experts expect the launch to be “rocky” as many states do not have all of the required functionality for the websites built or tested yet.

This got me to thinking about one of my cardinal rules about website redesign. Never, and I mean NEVER, announce a date for a new website launch until the website is actually ready to launch. The association world is rife with stories of associations who announced “We’ll have a new website ready for our next annual meeting!” only to have to retract that announcement AT the annual meeting.

Unless there is some really compelling reason to announce a website launch date (and there rarely are really compelling reasons), don’t announce it until the site is actually ready!
