It's about the fundamentals

In football, coaches will often refer to “getting back to blocking and tackling.” Usually this is in reference to how a team is not performing up to par because they lack skills in the basics or fundamentals.

The same can be said for data management. Associations often ask me how they can get better at marketing or communications using their data. But when we dig in to see what kind of data they have and the quality of the data, we often find that the data is in poor quality, the data is spread across multiple systems, and many staff don’t even know what data the association has!

These are fundamentals. And before you can do the advanced stuff, you’ve got to take care of the fundamentals. The blocking and tackling.
