New AMS Vendor Enters the Market

The latest product to be added to the large list of companies serving the association market is Membersuite. Membersuite is headed up by Andrew Ryan, who has a long history of software development in the association market.

I’ve had a chance to see a demo of the new product, and at first blush, I’m very pleased with what I see. The interface is very user friendly, and some of the functionality is very impressive. Membersuite is being offered as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product and potential users can sign up for a free 14-day demo.

Some of the features I like include:

  • the ability to create fields and even complete database entities, and to be able to modify screens as needed.
  • the ability to program process workflows that allow each client to customize database triggers (which means you can make the database do more work for you).
  • the ability to set up validation rules for data entry on distinct fields.
While I’ve seen this kind of functionality in other systems, having this much functionality in a SaaS product is fairly unique, so I’m cautiously optimistic about this product.
More competition in the market is always good for consumers, so I’m happy to see such a strong offering being added to the AMS marketing mix.
Full disclosure: EDM is an independent third-party consulting firm. This means we have no financial relationship with any of the vendors mentioned in this blog. We provide unbiased opinions on what we see.

Wes, how has your clients experience been using this product? We signed up for a trial site and thought the product was extremely slow.

Keith, my clients have been generally pleased with MemberSuite. Trial sites are not necessarily the best test of product speed, as they are often on servers separate from the production servers.

Wes, how many would recommend we select them? You can give me a percentage in round numbers.

Keith, that's the kind of information I get paid for. See my remote consulting offerings: http://effectivedatabase.com/remote-consulting-services

Testimonials

“Wes was able to come in and offer tangible, relevant advice that made us more productive immediately. I value his understanding of databases but more so, his understanding of how nonprofits work. There was no lost time educating him about how membership organizations are “different.” Wes recommended changes in processes as well as tips and tricks that were easy to implement made an immediate positive impact.”

“We came to Wes because we were very frustrated with our existing AMS and we wanted to improve our capabilities as soon as practicable. Wes very quickly helped us through a process of identifying our needs, identifying potential vendors, and selecting a new system that we’ll be able to move into very quickly. I especially appreciated Wes’s candor about our processes as well as the systems we were looking at. He was a great resource to have in a period of high anxiety for our organization. I would highly recommend Wes for any similar project.”

“This is the second database implementation we’ve done since I have been at Western Arts Alliance (WAA). The first I did on my own. This time we engaged Wes Trochlil as our database planning consultant. Let me tell you, this process is a whole lot easier having Wes on your team! For a small association like WAA, it’s tempting for board and EDs to question the justification and expense of a database planning consultant. But it’s the small associations that need Effective Database Management the most. Wes strengthened our planning process, clarified our needs requirements, helped us steer around solutions that couldn’t meet our objectives, and saved us money in the long haul.”
